TRADITION

What is a Turkish bath (hammam), and what does a hammam in Sarajevo include?

The hammam, known in Bosnian as a hamam, is a traditional steam bath of Ottoman origin: a place for cleansing, rest and socialising. Unlike a dry sauna, a hammam is a warm, humid steam room that opens the pores, relaxes the muscles and prepares the skin for a scrub.

A traditional hammam ritual in our salons usually goes through several steps: time in the steam room, a scrub with a kessa glove that removes dead skin cells and stimulates circulation, then care with soap or foam and, depending on the treatment, an algae or clay mask and a relaxing oil massage. The result is smooth, nourished skin and a feeling of complete relaxation.

We use quality products such as organic coconut oil, aloe vera, natural clay, micronised algae and Dead Sea salt scrubs. We also offer Moroccan hammam rituals with black beldi soap and a deep scrub.

RITUAL STEP BY STEP

What a hammam ritual looks like

A hammam is, above all, an environment in which the body and nervous system come to rest, and we achieve that with heat and steam.

01

Heat and steam

The ritual begins with warming up in the hammam steam or the sauna and, at Sultan Spa, also in a warm jacuzzi at up to 40 °C.

02

Scrub in the halvat

Then comes the most spectacular part: the scrub in the halvat, the scrub room. You lie on a heated stone while the therapist bathes you by pouring warm water and scrubs you with a hammam glove.

03

Foam and cooling

Rich soap foam and a soap massage, and the ritual ends with cooling the body and washing with cold water.

04

Massage if you wish

With us, a hammam most often continues with a full-body massage in the massage room, and if the ritual alone is enough for you, you can skip the massage.

Diamond package - Moroccan hammam and massage

FIRST TIME IN A HAMMAM?

Start with the Diamond package

The Diamond package is our most popular package at Amman Spa and Sultan Spa: hammam steam, Moroccan beldi soap made of black olives and argan oil, a glove scrub, a Diamond scrub of coconut oil, rice powder and lavender, and a full-body massage with organic coconut oil. During the treatment you are alone in the spa, sharing the space only with the staff who look after you.

Price: 300 KM

PRIVACY AND HOSPITALITY

Your peace, your space

Privacy comes first with us: there are no other guests in the same space unless you came together. That is why Amman Spa and Sultan Spa are also hijab friendly, a calm oasis of relaxation for those who are looking for exactly that.

Sarajevo is a city where life moves slowly and coffee is not carried down the street in a paper cup, but drunk in conversation with friends. A hammam is the perfect continuation of such a day.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know about a hammam in Sarajevo

How much does a hammam in Sarajevo cost?

A hammam scrub (30 or 60 minutes) costs from 100 KM, a hammam scrub with a seaweed body mask 160 KM, and the New Skin ritual (hammam and massage) 150 KM. Packages that combine hammam, massage and masks cost more, and our most complete ritual costs 490 KM. Current prices of all hammam treatments and packages are in the price list on this page.

What should I bring with me?

If you have booked a hammam treatment, you do not need to bring anything special. We provide disposable underwear to wear during the treatment, a towel, slippers and, if needed, a robe.

If you do not feel comfortable being fully uncovered in front of the therapist, please feel free to adjust this to your needs. A small towel is available to cover your chest, and you are welcome to bring a two-piece bikini.

A two-piece bikini can also be practical if you prefer to be more covered, while still allowing the scrub to be done properly on the accessible parts of the body.

The most important thing to us is that you feel comfortable, relaxed and safe during your treatment.

Are prices per person or for two people?

All prices in our spa price list are per person.

From time to time we offer promotional packages designed for two people, and in those cases this is clearly stated in the offer itself.

So unless a package is specifically marked as being for two people, the price in the price list applies to one person.

Is the spa gender segregated?

No, our spa is not gender segregated, but we pay great attention to privacy and offer private sessions and private rooms.

If you wear a hijab and want complete privacy, you can request a female therapist. All massage rooms are separate, and the hammam is private and reserved for a single booking: you do not share it with other guests unless you wish to. You can use the hammam privately with your group of women or together with your husband, according to your booking.

Please note that the corridors are shared areas where other guests may pass. For this reason we recommend wearing a robe when moving from the room to the hammam, and putting a towel over your head or putting your hijab back on.

Our team will do everything possible to make this transfer as private as it can be. Before you leave the room, the therapists will check the corridor and, whenever possible, make sure there are no other guests or male therapists nearby at that moment.

Your privacy matters to us, so please tell us your needs in advance and we will adapt your stay to them.

Can I pay by card?

Yes, card payment is possible. We accept Visa and MasterCard.

American Express is currently not accepted at our spa centre.

You can also pay for our services in cash.

Do you offer a discount for groups?

Yes. For groups of more than 8 people our spa offers special packages and reduced prices.

If you would like to book the spa centre for private use for a larger group, please contact us via WhatsApp or phone. Our management will prepare a package and price tailored to the size of your group and your needs.

This offer is also available to groups arriving through travel agencies, as our spa centres work with many travel agencies and tour operators.

Can I choose a therapist based on a photo or physical appearance?

No. It is not possible to choose a therapist based on a photo, physical appearance or other personal characteristics. Our spa centre does not send therapist photos for clients to choose a therapist for their treatment.

Please keep in mind that a professional relationship between therapist and client is the basic rule of our spa centre. Requests or questions about choosing a therapist solely on the basis of physical appearance may breach our sexual harassment policy, which is clearly displayed in our massage rooms.

We owe our therapists a safe and professional working environment, and we expect the same respect from all guests.

Do couples stay together during the treatments?

At Amman Spa we have a lovely couples room in our attic. The room also has a small seating area with two armchairs, where our guests can have tea together and take a moment to rest.

However, the hammam at Amman Spa is private and for one person at a time. If you come as a couple, you will have your hammam treatments separately.

The sauna at Amman Spa is also completely private and you do not share it with other guests, so as a couple you can enjoy the sauna together.

At Sultan Spa the situation is different: you can stay together throughout the whole spa journey (sauna, jacuzzi, hammam, massage).

Amman Spa and Sultan Spa have slightly different architecture and atmosphere, but the services, protocols and prices are the same. Our therapists move between the two locations, so we are one team in two locations in the Old Town.
